OUR CURRICULUM
ACADEMIC LEARNING EXPERIENCES
St. Joseph Academy has been preparing children to grow and succeed spiritually, academically and socially in this ever-changing world for more than 34 years.

Our students benefit from a rich and varied curriculum of Religion, Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, and Spanish.  Learning also includes Art, Music, Physical Education, Library, and Computer classes.  In addition, students enjoy a Cultural Arts program sponsored by the PTO and Junior Achievement taught by parent volunteers.  Resource teachers and individual modifications support students who require adaptations in order for them to succeed academically.

Private schools consistently score higher than the national average on standardized testing.  Investing in your child’s elementary school education will pay dividends far beyond 8th grade graduation.

SOCIAL  LEARNING  EXPERIENCES
Besides our academic curriculum, our children engage in a number of fun activities that provide multiple ways to learn with hands-on-experience.
  • All school Saints Costume Contest.
  • All grades share a Thanksgiving feast (quote)
  • Kindergarteners enjoy father/son & mother/daughter nights as well as grandparents day.
  • First Graders raise butterflies, perform a butterfly dance for the primary grades, and visit the Butterfly Show at the Krohn Conservatory.
  • Second graders hatch baby chicks in the spring.
  • Each child in third grade sends a Traveling Charlie (paper figure) around the world and eagerly awaits news and treats from distant places Charlie visits.
  • Fourth grade incorporates their Kentucky history lesson with a visit to Frankfort.
  • The 5th through 8th grade compete in the National Geography Bee and the Scripps Spelling Bee.
  • Seventh and Eighth graders participate in the Diocesan wide competition in areas such as math, religion, art and science.
  • Parents help celebrate Catholic Schools Week and share lunch with their children.  Fun games and contests are played during the week.
  • Students are taught to read music, play instruments, and perform concerts.
  • Eighth grade publishes a school newspaper distributed quarterly to our SJA families.
  • Eighth grade culminates in an end of year class trip.
  • All grades take part in a spring field day loaded with physical activity and light competition.
  • The students always enjoy a performance by their fellow classmates in the Singin' Strings Dulcimer Club.
  • In teaching Christian acts of charity, our school works on service learning projects (combines a teaching subject with a service) such as canned good drives, Ronald McDonald pop tab collections, and sending care packages to our troops overseas.
  • Everyone enjoys our creamy whip ice cream machine to celebrate special occasions or   “just because!"

We, at St. Joseph Academy, strive to model a true Catholic life through embracing the Gospel message of Jesus Christ, to help our students grow spiritually, academically and socially.
